The short version

  • Everything you write stays on your device — there's no account and no server.
  • No ads, no analytics, no third-party tracking SDKs.
  • Camera, microphone & location are used only to create your entries — and only with your permission.
  • Backups are optional and go to a file or your own Google Drive — never to us.

This Privacy Policy explains how the My Diary My Story app ("the App") handles your information. Please read it carefully.

Your data stays on your device

The App is a personal, offline diary. All content you create — text entries, photos, videos, audio recordings, and any location you choose to attach — is stored only on your device. This content is not uploaded to, collected by, or accessible to the developer. The App has no user account and no server.

The one exception is entirely in your hands: if you choose to, you can create a backup to a file or to your own Google Drive. That always begins with you, and the backup goes to your storage — never to the developer. See Backups below.

Permissions and how they are used

The App requests certain permissions solely to provide its features. Data accessed through these permissions is stored only on your device:

  • Camera / Microphone — to capture photos, videos, and voice recordings for your diary entries, and (optionally) to dictate entry text by speaking. See Voice dictation below.
  • Photos / Media / Storage — to attach images you choose and to save your diary media on your device.
  • Location (approximate and precise) — only if you grant permission, so you can optionally tag a diary entry with where it was written. Location is stored locally with your entry.

Voice dictation (speech‑to‑text)

You can optionally dictate an entry instead of typing. When you do, the App uses your device's built‑in speech recognition to turn your speech into text. The App prefers on‑device recognition where your device supports it, so your voice stays on the phone. On some devices — particularly older Android versions — the system's speech service may process the audio through Google to perform the conversion, under Google's Privacy Policy. The App does not store the dictation audio or send it to the developer; only the recognized text is placed into your entry, on your device.

Backups (file & Google Drive)

The App can create a backup of your diary so you can keep it safe or move it to a new phone. A backup is always started by you — it never happens automatically — and you choose where it goes:

  • To a file you save on your device or wherever you like. You can optionally protect it with a password, which encrypts the backup (AES‑256) so only someone with the password can open it.
  • To your own Google Drive. If you choose this, the App signs you in with Google and saves the backup into a dedicated "My Diary My Story Backups" folder in your Drive. It uses the limited drive.file scope, so it can only see and manage the files it creates — it cannot access anything else in your Drive.

In both cases the backup contains your entries and media and goes to your storage — not to the developer, who never receives it. When you back up to Drive, Google processes the data needed to store files in your account under Google's Privacy Policy. You can delete a backup at any time by removing the file or deleting it from your Drive.

Google Maps and Google Play services

The App uses Google Maps Platform and Google Play services to display maps and determine your device location. When you use these features, Google may receive and process location and related device information to provide the service, in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

Apart from the location/device data processed by these Google services to power the map feature, the App does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data. The App contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs.

Security

You can protect the App with a password, a security question, and fingerprint/biometric unlock. These protections and their data are stored locally on your device.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data is stored only on your device, you remain in full control of it. You can:

  • delete individual entries within the App,
  • remove all App data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling the App, or
  • delete any backups you created by removing the file or deleting them from your Google Drive.

Children

The App is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed to children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted at this page.

May 2026 update: added sections on voice dictation and on backing up your diary to a file or Google Drive.
